Ingredients
Scale
- 2 cups all-purpose flour
- 1/4 cup granulated sugar
- 1 tablespoon baking powder
- 1/2 cup cold butter, cut into small pieces
- 1/2 cup milk
- 1/2 cup raisins or currants
- 1 egg, for wash
- Pinch of salt
Instructions
- Gather all your ingredients for the scones.
- Combine milk and raisins (or currants) in a bowl and let them soak briefly.
- In a bowl, whisk together flour, sugar, baking powder, and salt. Cut in butter until it resembles coarse crumbs. Stir in the milk mixture until just combined.
- Roll out the dough on a floured surface and cut out scones using biscuit cutters.
- Preheat oven to 400°F (200°C). Place scones on a parchment-lined baking sheet, brush with egg wash, and bake for 15-20 minutes until lightly browned.
Notes
- Enjoy fresh from the oven for the best flavor.
- Store leftovers in an airtight container at room temperature for up to 2 days or freeze for longer storage.
- For variation, substitute raisins with chocolate chips or leave them out completely.
- Add lemon zest or spices like nutmeg for an unexpected flavor twist.
