Ingredients
Scale
- 2 cups chopped mushrooms (button or cremini)
- 1 small onion, finely chopped
- 2 cloves garlic, minced
- 1/2 cup grated cheese (cheddar or Gruyère)
- 1 sheet puff pastry, thawed
- 1 tablespoon olive oil
- Salt and pepper to taste
- 1 egg, beaten (for egg wash)
Instructions
- Preheat your oven to 400°F (200°C).
- In a skillet, heat the olive oil over medium heat. Sauté the onions and garlic until translucent.
- Add the chopped mushrooms and cook until tender and browned. Season with salt and pepper.
- Remove the mixture from heat and let it cool slightly. Mix in the grated cheese for added richness.
- On a lightly floured surface, roll out the puff pastry sheet. Cut into squares approximately 4 inches across.
- Place a spoonful of mushroom filling in the center of each square.
- Brush the edges with beaten egg, then fold the pastry over to form a triangle or rectangle, sealing the edges.
- Transfer to a baking sheet lined with parchment paper. Brush the tops with egg wash for a golden finish.
- Bake for 20-25 minutes or until puffed and golden brown.
Notes
- For extra flavor, add fresh herbs like thyme or rosemary to the mushroom filling.
- Ensure the filling is cooled before sealing to prevent sogginess.
- Use a sharp knife to cut the puff pastry evenly for uniform turnovers.
