Ingredients
Scale
- 2 pounds lean beef (such as flank steak or round steak), thinly sliced against the grain
- 1/2 cup soy sauce
- 1/4 cup Worcestershire sauce
- 2 tablespoons brown sugar
- 1 tablespoon smoked paprika
- 1 teaspoon garlic powder
- 1 teaspoon onion powder
- 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
- 1/4 teaspoon red pepper flakes (optional, for heat)
Instructions
- In a large mixing bowl, whisk together soy sauce, Worcestershire sauce, brown sugar, smoked paprika, garlic powder, onion powder, black pepper, and red pepper flakes. Toss in the beef.
- Transfer the beef to a resealable bag or container and marinate in the refrigerator for at least 6 hours, preferably overnight.
- Remove the marinated beef and arrange slices in a single layer on dehydrator trays or oven-safe wire racks.
- Set dehydrator to 160Β°F (71Β°C) or preheat oven to 170Β°F (77Β°C) and dehydrate beef for 3-6 hours until dry and leathery.
- Once dehydrated, cool completely and store in an airtight container at room temperature.
Notes
- Use lean beef to prevent spoilage.
- Slice beef thinly for even dehydration.
- Allow for thorough marination for flavor enhancement.
- Maintain consistent temperature during drying.
- Check jerky for dryness and pliability before storing.
