Ingredients
Scale
- 1 lb (450g) ground beef (preferably beef meatballs style)
- 1/2 cup breadcrumbs
- 1/4 cup grated Parmesan cheese
- 1 large egg
- 2 cloves garlic, minced
- 1 small onion, finely chopped
- 1 tsp dried oregano
- 1 tsp smoked paprika
- Salt and black pepper to taste
- 1 can (15 oz) crushed tomatoes
- 2 tbsp olive oil
- Fresh basil or parsley for garnish
Instructions
- Preheat your oven to 400°F (200°C). Line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
- In a large mixing bowl, combine the ground beef, breadcrumbs, Parmesan, egg, minced garlic, chopped onion, oregano, smoked paprika, salt, and pepper. Mix well until all ingredients are evenly incorporated.
- Form the mixture into meatballs about 1.5 inches in diameter and place them on the prepared baking sheet.
- Bake for 20-25 minutes until golden brown and cooked through.
- While baking, heat the olive oil in a large skillet over medium heat. Add the crushed tomatoes and simmer for 10 minutes, seasoning with salt and herbs.
- Add the baked meatballs to the tomato sauce and simmer for an additional 10 minutes to meld flavors.
- Serve hot, garnished with fresh basil or parsley for authentic medieval presentation.
Notes
- For added medieval flavor, consider adding spices like cumin, coriander, or cinnamon to the meatball mixture.
- Ensure not to overcrowd the baking sheet to allow even cooking and browning.
- Leftovers can be stored in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 3 days or frozen for up to 3 months.
