Ingredients
Scale
- 3 ½ cups all-purpose flour
- ¼ cup granulated sugar
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 2 ¼ teaspoons (1 packet) active dry yeast
- 1 cup warm honey mead (100-110°F)
- ¼ cup melted butter
- 1 large egg
- Optional: Honey for drizzling, oats for sprinkling
Instructions
- In a large mixing bowl, whisk together the flour, sugar, salt, and active dry yeast.
- In a separate bowl, combine the warm honey mead and melted butter. Add the egg and whisk until well combined.
- Pour the wet ingredients into the dry ingredients. Mix until a shaggy dough forms, then knead on a floured surface for 5-7 minutes.
- Place the dough in a lightly oiled bowl, cover, and let it rise in a warm place for 1-1.5 hours.
- Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Punch down the dough, shape it into a loaf, and place it in a greased baking pan. Let it rest for 20 minutes.
- Bake for 30-35 minutes, until golden brown. Cool in the pan for 10 minutes before transferring to a wire rack.
- Optional: Drizzle with honey before serving.
Notes
- For a richer flavor, use dark honey mead.
- Add chopped nuts or dried fruits for extra texture.
- Try different types of flour like whole wheat or spelt.
- If honey mead isn’t available, substitute with regular mead and a tablespoon of honey.
