Ingredients
Scale
- 1 cup unsalted butter, softened
- 1 ½ cups granulated sugar
- 2 large eggs
- 2 teaspoons vanilla extract
- 3 cups all-purpose flour
- ½ teaspoon baking powder
- ¼ teaspoon salt
- Orange and black food coloring
- White candy melts for the eyes
- Black edible marker for details
- Pretzel sticks or candy sticks for the handles
Instructions
- In a large bowl, beat together the softened butter and sugar until creamy.
- Add eggs and vanilla extract, mixing well.
- In a separate bowl, whisk together flour, baking powder, and salt.
- Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet mixture until combined.
- Divide the dough into two portions. Tint one with orange food coloring for the arms and handle, and the other with black for details.
- Wrap each portion in plastic wrap and chill for at least 1 hour.
Cutting and Baking
- Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Line baking sheets with parchment paper.
- Roll out the dough on a floured surface to about ¼ inch thickness.
- Cut out cookie shapes similar to Forky’s head, with additional strips for the arms using a knife or cookie cutter.
- Arrange the cookies on the baking sheets and bake for 10-12 minutes or until edges are lightly golden.
- Allow cookies to cool completely before decorating.
Decorating the Forky Cookies
- Melt the white candy melts and use them to add eyes on the cookies, attaching small circles with a dab of melted candy.
- Use the black edible marker to draw pupils, facial features, and other details.
- For the arms, attach pretzel sticks or candy sticks using a bit of melted candy or frosting.
- Create the handle and arms with orange-colored dough or icing for authenticity.
- Optionally, add extra details like eyebrows or a surprised expression for more character accuracy.
Notes
- Chill the dough thoroughly for easier handling and better shape retention.
- Use high-quality candy melts for smoother decoration.
- Allow decorated cookies to set before handling to prevent smudging.
