  • Total Time: 45 minutes
  • Yield: 8 servings 1x

Ingredients

Scale
  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 tablespoon baking powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 cup cold butter, cut into cubes
  • 3/4 cup milk
  • 1 pound breakfast sausage
  • 1/4 cup all-purpose flour (for gravy)
  • 2 cups milk (for gravy)
  • Salt and pepper to taste

Instructions

  1. In a large mixing bowl, combine 2 cups of flour, 1 tablespoon of baking powder, and 1/2 teaspoon of salt. Cut in 1/2 cup of cold butter until resembling coarse crumbs.
  2. Gradually stir in 3/4 cup of milk until just combined.
  3. Turn the dough onto a lightly floured surface, knead gently and roll out to 1-inch thick. Cut out biscuits and place them on a baking sheet.
  4. Preheat the oven to 425°F (220°C).
  5. In a skillet, cook 1 pound of breakfast sausage over medium heat until browned. Drain excess fat, leaving 2 tablespoons in the skillet.
  6. Sprinkle 1/4 cup of flour over the sausage, stir for 1-2 minutes, then add 2 cups of milk.
  7. Stir the mixture until thickened, season with salt and pepper, and simmer to enhance flavor.
  8. Bake the biscuits for 12-15 minutes until golden brown.
  9. Serve the split biscuits topped with creamy sausage gravy.

Notes

  • Feel free to customize the gravy with your favorite herbs and spices for added flavor.
  • For a lighter version, you can use reduced-fat turkey sausage.
  • Biscuits are best served fresh but can be reheated in the oven.
