Ingredients
Scale
- 4 large egg whites
- 1 cup granulated sugar
- 1/2 teaspoon cream of tartar
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- Food coloring (yellow, white, and black)
- Lollipop sticks or small skewers
- Edible food markers or black decorating gel for details
- Optional: gelatin or cornstarch for texture enhancement
Instructions
- Preheat your oven to 200°F (93°C). Line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
- Beat the egg whites in a clean, dry bowl with an electric mixer. Add the cream of tartar and beat until soft peaks form.
- Gradually add sugar, one tablespoon at a time, and continue beating until stiff, glossy peaks form and sugar dissolves.
- Add vanilla extract and gently fold into the meringue.
- Divide the meringue into three bowls. Color one with yellow food coloring, leave one white, and tint another black for details.
- Spoon or pipe the white and yellow meringue onto the parchment-lined tray, shaping into bulb shapes, with black meringue forming filament or base details.
- Insert lollipop sticks into each meringue shape.
- Bake for 1.5 to 2 hours until crisp and dry.
- Let cool completely before decorating with edible markers or black gel to add filament details for a spooky effect.
Notes
- Store in an airtight container at room temperature for up to 2 days to keep crispness.
- For extended storage, refrigerate but be aware humidity may affect texture.
- Place silica gel packets in the container to maintain crispness.
