Ingredients
- 2 cups of granulated sugar
- 3/4 cup of light corn syrup
- 1/2 cup of water
- 1/4 teaspoon of cream of tartar
- Food coloring (your choice of colors)
- Flavor extracts (like peppermint, cherry, or lemon)
- Powdered sugar (for coating)
- Optional: edible glitter or sprinkles for decoration
Instructions
- Combine sugar, corn syrup, water, and cream of tartar in a heavy-bottomed saucepan. Stir until the sugar dissolves completely.
- Place the saucepan over medium heat and bring to a boil without stirring. Use a candy thermometer to monitor temperature until it reaches 300°F (hard crack stage).
- Remove from heat and divide the mixture into portions for different colors and flavors. Stir in food coloring and flavor extracts as desired.
- Quickly pour small amounts of candy onto a greased marble or silicone mat to cool. Once cool enough to handle, knead and stretch the candy until pliable.
- Shape into small balls, then flatten slightly to resemble jawbreakers. Repeat with different colors for a vibrant, multi-colored effect.
- Roll candies in powdered sugar for a shiny, protective coating. Add edible glitter or sprinkles for extra sparkle. Let cure for at least 24 hours before storing.
Notes
- Ensure candy reaches 300°F (hard crack stage) for proper setting and shaping.
- Work quickly when pouring and shaping to prevent the mixture from cooling excessively.
- Store in an airtight container at room temperature to maintain freshness and crunch.
- You can customize flavors and colors to suit your preferences.
