Ingredients
- 4 large egg whites, at room temperature
- 1 cup (200g) superfine sugar
- 1/4 teaspoon cream of tartar
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- Optional: Food coloring (blue and white for weather effects)
- Edible glitter or shimmer for storm effects (optional)
Instructions
- Preheat your oven to 225°F (110°C) and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
- Whisk the egg whites in a clean, dry bowl using an electric mixer on medium speed. Add the cream of tartar once they become frothy.
- Gradually add sugar one tablespoon at a time while continuing to whisk. Whisk until the mixture forms stiff, glossy peaks and the sugar is fully dissolved.
- Add vanilla extract and gently fold in any food coloring or edible glitter for stormy effects.
- Spoon or pipe the meringue mixture onto the prepared baking sheet, forming cloud shapes or peaks. Create small, fluffy mounds for a weather-inspired look.
- Bake in the preheated oven for approximately 1 hour and 15 minutes. Once done, turn off the oven and let the meringues cool inside for a couple of hours or overnight.
Notes
- Ensure no yolk contaminates the egg whites for best volume.
- Use a clean bowl and whisk for optimal meringue formation.
- Adding food coloring or edible shimmer enhances the storm cloud effect.
- Store in an airtight container at room temperature away from humidity.
- Do not refrigerate to keep them crispy and fresh.
