Ingredients
Scale
- 2 cups all-purpose flour
- 1 cup warm water
- 2 tsp active dry yeast
- 2 Tbsp sugar
- 1/2 tsp salt
- 1/2 cup sweet red bean paste
- 1 Tbsp sesame seeds (optional)
Instructions
- Activate yeast by mixing warm water with sugar and letting it foam 5-10 minutes.
- Whisk flour and salt in a bowl, then add the foamy yeast mixture to form a soft dough.
- Knead 5-7 minutes until smooth; cover and let rise 35-40 minutes until doubled.
- Divide dough into 8 equal pieces; flatten into discs and place 1 Tbsp red bean paste in center; pinch edges to seal.
- Place buns on parchment-lined steamer tray; proof 15 minutes.
- Steam over high heat for 12 minutes until puffy and cooked through. Let cool slightly before serving.
Notes
- If you donβt own a steamer, set a bamboo steamer over a pot with ample water and a rack; line with parchment.
- For softer buns, avoid overproofing and keep steam at a steady pace.
- Store leftovers refrigerated up to 2 days and re-steam before serving.
