- 1 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
- 1/2 cup granulated sugar
- 1/4 cup light brown sugar
- 1/2 cup unsalted butter, softened
- 2 large eggs
- 1/2 cup milk
- 1 tsp vanilla extract
- 1 tsp baking powder
- 1/4 tsp salt
- 1 tsp dried lavender buds (optional)
- Purple gel food coloring, as needed
- For frosting: 1/2 cup unsalted butter, softened
- 2 cups powdered sugar
- 2-3 tbsp milk
- 1/2 tsp vanilla extract
- Purple edible glitter or edible stars for decoration
Instructions
- Preheat oven to 350F (175C). Line a 12-cup muffin tin.
- Whisk flour, baking powder, and salt in a bowl. In another bowl, beat butter and sugars until light and creamy. Add eggs one at a time, then vanilla.
- Alternate adding dry ingredients and milk, mixing until just combined. Fold in lavender if using. Add a few drops of purple gel coloring as desired.
- Fill cups 2/3 full and bake 18-20 minutes. Cool completely before frosting.
- Beat frosting ingredients until smooth. Pipe lavender frosting on cupcakes. Decorate with edible stars and glitter to resemble a sleeping draught.
Notes
- Use edible lavender for fragrance; omit if sensitive.
- Chill frosting for easier piping.
- Store in an airtight container for up to 3 days.
